Here is a little bit more about me and how I became a teacher.
Believe it or not, I didn't always know that I wanted to be a teacher. When I first went to college at WSU, I thought that I wanted to be a nurse. I put two and a half years into nursing classes. When it came time to start applying to nursing schools, I started to question this choice. I got a job as a CNA (certified nursing assistant) in a hospital in the meantime. The more that I thought about it and considered my future, I knew that I had to make a decision.
After thinking long and hard, I decided to completely change my major to elementary education.
After putting so much time and effort into nursing, this was a scary decision. Ever since I was a young girl, I always said that I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My mom was a teacher for over twenty years. My sister is currently a 3rd grade teacher. So, it must run in the family! This was a big change in my life, but I know that everything happens for a reason. Now, I can definitely say that was the right choice for me.
These are pictures of my mom and sister. They have been the best examples of women in education. I've got some big shoes to fill!
My Time As a CNA
I have been a CNA for almost 2 years now in the Progressive Care Unit. It has been challenging, amazing, and sometimes crazy! Although I am not pursuing nursing anymore, this job has been such a big part of my life that I will never forget.
I know that everything I've learned and experienced as a CNA will help me be a better teacher. I've learned how to keep calm in craziness, some serious patience, and that compassion for others is so important.
I wouldn't change my college career for anything! It is definitely not what I expected, but it has led me here. I can't wait to be Miss Brewer!
